An exhibition of the works of women artists in rebellion against both authoritarian socialist and bourgeois Western stereotypes in the years just prior to the fall of the Berlin Wall.
This unique exhibition comes to the Wende Museum at The Armory in Culver City, CA, premiering on November 10. It is presented as part of “Wunderbar Together: The Year of German-American Friendship 2018/19,” an initiative funded by the German Federal Foreign Office and implemented by the Goethe-Institut.
Celebrate the art of rebel females who dared provoke the wrath of their Big Brother overseers while at the same time resisting the overtures of their bourgeois Western would-be rescuers. They refused to propagate the clichéd images and roles imposed upon women by both Pravda and Good Housekeeping.
