Song of the Week: “Worry With You” by Sleater-Kinney

Nineties indie rock favorites Sleater-Kinney returned with their winning brand of ferociously catchy rock songs in 2021 with Path of Wellness, their first album since the departure of drummer Janet Weiss. Singer/songwriters Corin Tucker and Carrie Brownstein proved with the new album that they’re still able to reinvent themselves, and create music befitting the specifics of the moment while remaining true to their roots.

Our song of the week, “Worry With You,” is a powerful ode to being a couple, especially relevant to those who struggled during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, but still resonating today. The song is about finding solace in another person who’s there for you in the worst of times as well as the best.

Here’s how Guitar World described “Worry With You:” “The single finds Carrie Brownstein and Corin Tucker serving up a wealth of jagged leads and sharply punctuated vocals over cyclical bass grooves, while the track’s chorus provides the yang to the verse’s yin, delivering a major-key ’60s pop sensibility.”

The song features lyric such as:

I had thought, there was no place for what I feel
And then I learned, you are the place for what I feel
Come at me with all of your swagger
The strength of you is what I’ve been after
If I’m gonna mess up, I’m gonna mess up with you
Oh, I figured out that love that takes you further
This heart was ready for the life preserver
If I’m gonna worry, I’m gonna worry with you
It’s true
Let’s get lost baby
And take a wrong turn
That’s the life, that’s the life
We never ever wanna get burned
