Essex-born singer-songwriter Chrissi has been intimately exploring the spectrum of our emotions. Relating to love and relationships by way of her expressive R&B sounds that also capture an alternative edge. Back in September 2021, she dropped her debut album titled, Back In The Day”. To celebrate the release of her EP, Chrissi also released the video for her song “Tracksuit.” Chrissi’s style combines sweeping orchestral soundscapes with a gentle, intimate style of songwriting. According to Complex, Chrissi had this to say about the song:
“’Tracksuit’ is a song about a boy who I went to college with, he’s a model and he always wore tracksuits. I fancied the pants off of him but he had a girlfriend. I couldn’t talk to my friends about my desperation and the notes app was calling my name, so ‘Tracksuit’ was born. It’s all exaggerated—you’d think I was in a relationship but it’s about a guy who said hi to me maybe twice…I wanted to put it on the EP because I relate heavily to being attracted to unavailable men. When that happens, it’s not really me to do anything about it so I simmer in the feelings and write songs about them. ‘Tracksuit’ was the first time I put those emotions into a song.”
With her vulnerable but humorous lyrics, she sings,
As the history calls you
I don’t recall you
Crawl past by my bedroom, you’re
Under the table, and
You like my perfume
It’s far past your curfew
You don’t leave my eyesight, and
Hope that I don’t bite
In the dead of night
Order me a Sprite
Keep your trainers white
Your Air Forces creased
I lay underneath
As I lay me down
Pray my heart you keep
