Multi-talented Israeli artist Kutiman has announced the release of his sixth album entitled Open released through Siyal Music in October. The announcement was shared with their lead single “My Everything,” a blissful slice of faintly psychedelic soul featuring long-time collaborator Dekel on vocal duties.
Having moved to Tel Aviv to study jazz, it was Kutiman’s working in a convenience store that exposed him to trip hop, jungle and Parliament which ended up informing and shaping his current work. Fresh from his successful role in Netflix music documentary Presenting Princess Shaw, Kutiman has released a series of albums that meld together these many and varied influences.
“My Everything” has an understated shimmer of pop perfection to go with the shuffling backbeat and sprinkles of twinkling keys and subtle strings to create a voluptuous piece of weary heartbreak. Dekel’s vocals add a great depth to the ‘love gone sour’ disappointment with his understated and deflated delivery—a perfect combination. The lyrics will resonate with anyone who has ever felt the heavy ache of lost love.
Sitting on the edge of the water
Feeling like the world is waiting
For us
To fall in love again
Pouring minutes into hours
All we ever needed
Is time
To make us understand
My lady
(Now and always)
I’m going crazy
(My heart and soul is)
