Parisian singer-songwriter November Ultra is quickly becoming the latest bedroom pop sensation. Often praised for her operatic and warm voice, this quickly rising star first entered the scene in November 2020 with the soothing DIY lullaby “Soft & Tender.” Ultra then went viral on TikTok last summer when Camila Cabello posted a video on TikTok using the song “Come into my arms” which led to November Ultra’s TikTok getting more than eight million views and bolstered her further into the spotlight.
Here in her latest single, “Le Manège,” she entrances her listeners with only the slightest touches of instrumentation accompanying her haunting vocals. November Ultra gently traces the heartbreak and joys that her bedroom walls have seen, paying tribute to her only constant companion一herself. According to CLASH, Ultra says this about “Le Manège:”
“This song is about endless love, about loving someone so much that you love them wrong, about being constantly close to short circuit. The beginning of the song pays tribute to Maurice Sendak’s children’s tale Max and the Maximons and this sentence pronounced by one of the monsters: “I’ll eat you up I love you so’. This is what we wanted to show in this video, this carousel, a universe stuck between the real and the unreal.”
November Ultra currently divides her time between her DIY bedroom-studio, and recording studios where she works as a topliner/songwriter, collaborating with the likes of artists like Jaden Smith, Kungs, Barbara Pravi. Ultra’s upcoming debut album, Bedroom Walls, came out April 8th and offers more songs to add to your sexy French music playlist.
