Song of the Week: “Hands” by Nickelus F

Have you heard of Nickelus F (formerly known as Nick Fury)? If not, let us introduce you to the underground hip-hop star you need to know. According to Interview Magazine,  Nickelus F got his first break in 2000, when he competed in the “Source Unsigned Hype Emcee Battle” where he placed second despite having no formal recording experience. He was also named “Unsigned Hype” in 2000 at the early age of 17. F was also BET’s 106 & Park “Freestyle Friday” running champ for seven weeks in a row, which subsequently earned him a place in its Hall of Fame in 2007. If all of that isn’t enough, he’s also collaborated with and written verses for rapper Drake, whom he met on Myspace, of all places.

Now that you know the basics, here’s the rest. Nickelus F is undoubtedly one of the unsung heroes of the rap world. Off of his album Stuck, we’re spotlighting the track “Hands.” Be warned the whole album is full of adult language and content, so this may be NSFW. The album is produced by Nickelus F himself, and the album that helped gain him some real accolades on the music scene. His gritty, raw style and talent for layering beats,  and textures are the perfect way to draw emotion out of his craft. Kick off your shoes and get acquainted with this lesser known juggernaut of rap talent.
