Song of the Week: “For Anyone” by H.E.R.

Summer may seem like the time where everyone is coupled up, but if you’re feeling despondent about a relationship gone wrong, take comfort in our song of the week, “For Anyone” by H.E.R., aka Gabriella Sarmiento Wilson, as she now wants to be called, from her 2021 album Back of My Mind. Wilson told Good Morning America in December 2022, “H.E.R. is me, but at the same time it’s a new chapter of my life, and I think I’m really finding that connection and I’m allowing people to see under the layers a little bit.”

With lyrics like the following, this is a soulful song that’s perfect for any time you’re feeling the relationship blues but still believe in love. Whether you’re mourning the death of a relationship, going through a divorce, or simply thought someone was your person and they didn’t feel the same way, this song will help soothe you. The good news is, there’s always lessons to be found in heartbreak, and comforting music to get you through.

I wish I could tell you
I don’t wanna be with somebody else new
Honestly, I wish I never met you
‘Cause you left me broken
Now my heart won’t open for anyone
Remembering the times when you and I would hide
No one else would find that funny
And only you would know
I’m better with you and it shows
Because the way you loved me
And I can’t find
A reason to replace the feeling that you left behind
I tried, I tried
