Abracadabra Orgasms?

You ever wonder how witches (as in the hocus focus, I put a sex hex on you variety) would have sex? No dig at missionary but you just know there has to be something more to it than that when magic is not just a possibility but is guaranteed.

Witch sex was one of the things I had to really think about as I was writing my spicy witchy RomCom, Witcha Gonna Do? I know it’s a hard life. Jokes aside, creating the world of Witchingdom that looks pretty much like ours—if ours had unicorn shifters, powerful witches, and lust magic. One of the first world-building decisions I made was that each witch had a signature scent to their magic. Being a romance, that (of course) meant that the main characters’ magical scents are complementary (think theater popcorn and melted butter for Tilda and Gil in Witcha Gonna Do?). But really, why would I stop there? Next came each witch family having a core type of magic. For Gil that core magic is the magical ability to connect with someone’s desire and turn the dial up to about a billion. You know a guy who could do that would not be having a Thursday night scheduled sex with the lights off and a maybe orgasm for his partner. Nope. Not in a world I got to create.

That brings us to sex on a train as Tilda and Gil are on their way to a massive heist. There’s floating. There are positions that may not be for those of us not magically inclined. There are abracadabra orgasms galore. Why? Because if you have the power to cast a spell, why wouldn’t you use that power to have amazing sex with the person you love on the eve of a heist that might end with both of you exiled and apart forever if anything goes wrong?

Are these the kind of thoughts every romance writer has when planning out a spicy witchy RomCom? I can’t speak for all of my fellow romance authors but it sure is how my process worked for Witcha Gonna Do? Sex and sexual compatibility matter in relationships (even fictional ones). The connection we make during it, the unique sense of vulnerability that comes with it, and the way we discover things about ourselves and the people we love in such an intimate moment is more powerful than any magic I as a romance author could ever dream up. And that’s why it was so important to get the witch sex right and why I spent so much time figuring out how Tilda and Gil were going to have their first (and subsequent) times together.

So when you check it out from your local library or grab your copy at your favorite bookseller, get ready for a slow burn that bangs.
