Song of the Week: “Your Hands” by GRAE

GRAE is making new-wave pop music that’s both nostalgic and boundary-breaking. The Toronto-based singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist crafts a hazy pop world filled with spacious vocals, buoyant production, and deeply personal lyrics. With smokey vocals reminiscent of Norah Jones, GRAE delivers a tender and powerful song about a “cheating bag of trash ex” (as described in opening credits of the music video).  She told Complex,

“The song is about taking power back after being in a manipulative relationship. Giving everything to someone and allowing the situation to be dictated by them, it was in ‘their hands’ until the tables turned and it wasn’t anymore. You gain your power back and realize your worth and tell this person you’re no longer here for their games.”
