Song of The Week: “I Would Die 4 U” by TiKA

TiKA is an artist, DJ, model, film composer, actor, creator, cultural producer, TV and online personality, activist, and advocate for the empowerment of female artists and creators.

During a time when the powerhouse singer-songwriter was experiencing a lot of personal turmoil and changes in her personal life, she created art that explores and transcends her personal pain. Desperate to purge and make sense of these traumas, she spent six months recording with her friend and producer Casey MQ. The result of this exorcism is Anywhere But Here from Next Door Records, a five-year-in-the-making debut album that sounds futuristic. The album transforms the darkest parts of life into soothing ease, gentle words, and even some popping dance tracks. TiKA, who will perform March 17 at The Opera House in Toronto, proves herself at the top of her game with this album.

Even when she’s covering other artists, TiKA is making a statement with her music. In her cover of “I Would Die 4 U,” she pays homage to the great Prince, but made her own amazing version of it. She took it in a very different direction, but it definitely works! The deep rolling emotions behind her voice go hand in hand with the alluring visuals directed by NASKADEMINI. TiKA’s image and sound as a new artist are being unleashed to make a very durable impression. We look forward to hearing the music she creates next.
